Lincoln News
11th Edition

Hello from Lincoln,

This afternoon our students and staff and very special guests gathered to celebrate and remember our Veterans in the annual Lincoln Veteran’s Day assembly.  Our fourth grade students researched and shared their slideshow.  THey researched and learned so much about military history and how it relates to today.  They worked collaboratively in trios to piece together a slideshow to represent all students. You can see the presentation here;  http://lincoln.melroseschools.com/2017/11/veterans-day-presentation/#sthash.d1d9p4AG.dpbs

The Rudolph Shop is coming soon! The annual Lincoln School Rudolph Shop will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017, kicking off Home for the Holidays weekend in Melrose.  For families new to the school, this event gives the children an opportunity to purchase holiday gifts for their families and friends. We will be leaving a labeled box in the school atrium for donations of the following items: Holiday gift wrap, Holiday gift bags (lunch bag size is best), Self-adhesive gift tags, Small bows, Scotch tape & Scissors.  We will need PLENTY of gift wrappers and helpers on Friday, December 1! If you would like to volunteer, you can use the online link here:  http://signup.com/go/vAQXmzF .  Any questions, contact Melissa Rinaldi at 857 334-2619 (text or call) or via email at [email protected]

5th grade families:

Can all 5th grade families please send to the nurse an updated physical.  This will help with environmental camp as well as the need for scoliosis screening in school come spring.

There will be a Kids’ Craft table at the Home For The Holidays Craft Fair and we are looking for creative and fun crafts made by our very own 5th grade crafters.  If your child would like to donate their handmade items to sell at the event or if you have any questions, please email Stephanie Stratford at [email protected].  Items can be brought to the fair on the morning of December 2nd beginning as early as 7:30.  All proceeds from the Kids Craft table will go to the PTO to support 5th grade activities.   There are lots of ways for all 5th graders to participate in Lincoln School’s Home for the Holiday’s event.  This includes helping hang posters, contributing to the bake sale, and staffing activity tables on the day of the event.  Stay tuned for more information about these opportunities.

Thursday, 12/7 at 6:30 pm, Melrose Veterans Memorial Middle School (MVMMS)  invites families of 5th Graders to visit the Middle School.  Plan to meet in the Performing Arts Center.   Please email questions to MVMMS Principal, Brent Conway at [email protected].

A committee of MPS educators have been meeting for the past two years to review the mathematics program in grades PreK-12.  The purpose of this review is to document practices especially in curriculum, instruction and assessment.  The committee will develop an action plan based on findings to present to school administration.  We’d love your support by completing this short parent survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9QZP6QT) that asks for your input about the math program. The survey is completely anonymous and will be used by the committee in conjunction with other data to help inform the review. If you are the parent of more than one student, please fill out this survey for each child.

Our “Lost and Found” is growing!  Has your child lost something?  Have him/her check out our lost and found located in the first floor hallway. These items will be donated before Thanksgiving if not found.
