Crayon Collection until Jan. 12th.

Dear Melrose Elementary School Community,

You can help make the 2018 Melrose Martin Luther King, Jr., Day of Service a smashing success by bringing in your old crayons in the new year!

Did you know that billions of crayons are thrown away each year in the USA?

The Crayon Collection asks schools like ours to collect gently used, unwanted crayons to donate to nearby schools in need of supplies.

The charity’s efforts help to cut down on the $750 per year of personal income that the average teacher spends to supplement his or her underfunded classroom, as well as to prevent billions of non-biodegradable crayons from heading to the landfill. We at FUMC will use even not-so-gently used crayons, melting them down and molding them into fun shapes to use as presents for kids in need.

Please bring your used (especially GENTLY used) crayons to school and deposit them in the collection box. It’s only here until January 12th so please bring them soon!

Thank you for your generosity and helping us help others!
